Nova Scotia is known for its stunning coastlines, so naturally, we had to check out some of the best beaches during our trip. We packed up, hit the road, and made our way to three amazing spots: one with waves perfect for surfers, one tucked away in a provincial park, and another with views that’ll take your breath away. Here’s how it went!
1. Lawrencetown Beach – The Ultimate Spot for Surfing and Chilling
First up was Lawrencetown Beach, not far from Halifax. If you’re into surfing, this is the spot in Nova Scotia. The waves here are some of the best in the province, and even if you’re not a surfer, it’s fun to watch people riding the waves while you hang out on the shore.
We didn’t try surfing (maybe next time!), but we did dip our toes in the water and enjoyed the cool breeze. The vibe at Lawrencetown is laid-back, with a mix of locals and tourists. The beach is a mix of sand and pebbles, which adds a cool texture to the landscape.
Pro Tip: Bring a hoodie! Even in the summer, the breeze off the water can be chilly.
2. Taylor Head Beach – Peace, Quiet, and Endless Views
Our second beach stop was Taylor Head Beach, located in Taylor Head Provincial Park. This place felt like we had stepped into a remote part of the world where the ocean meets a perfect, untouched shoreline. The beach is long, with soft sand that feels great under your feet, and the waves crashing against the shore made everything feel so peaceful.
One thing we loved about this beach was how quiet it was. There were no big crowds—just us, the seagulls, and the sound of the waves. If you’re looking for a beach where you can get away from it all, this is the one. Plus, there are some great hiking trails in the park, so you can get a workout in before or after you relax by the water.
Pro Tip: Stay for sunset! The colors in the sky here are next-level gorgeous.
3. Peggy’s Cove Beach – Iconic Nova Scotia Vibes
Last but not least, we made our way to Peggy’s Cove. While most people come here for the famous lighthouse, the small beach nearby is definitely worth checking out. It’s not your typical sandy beach—it’s more rugged and rocky—but the views are straight out of a postcard. The lighthouse in the distance, the crashing waves, and the charming little village all make it a must-see.
We arrived at Peggy’s Cove just before sunset, and it was the perfect time to soak in the scenery. The whole area feels like a slice of classic Nova Scotia, with fishing boats bobbing in the harbor and fresh seafood just around the corner.
Pro Tip: Grab a snack from one of the local seafood joints nearby. Nothing beats fresh fish and chips by the ocean!
Final Thoughts
From surf scene at Lawrencetown to the peaceful shores of Taylor Head and the iconic views of Peggy’s Cove, these three beaches each have something special to offer. Whether you want to relax, catch some waves, or take in the scenery, Nova Scotia’s beaches have it all. We had a blast exploring these spots and can’t wait to go back!
